Welcome to Dr. Krieger's page!

Welcome to our web site! We are glad you came by to visit. Woodlake Elementary serves over 700 students in grades PreK-3. Our campus is located in Mandeville, Louisiana, in a beautifully wooded area on Little Bayou Castine. We have an outdoor classroom that sits on the bayou offering our students a pleasant way to learn about ecology, tidal action, salt water creatures, as well as seasonal changes in the marsh. We have a staff of dedicated professionals that you will meet as you visit the faculty directory. You can learn a lot about our little Pel-I-Cans if you visit our monthly scrapbook. Many of our activities are captured there.

If you are in the Mandeville area, please come by and visit our school. You will find it is a great place for kids!

Sincerely,

Dr. Jean Krieger

My Book Picks for October and November

I have selected several books that I have enjoyed.  They are The Wrong-Way Rabbit by Teddy Slater and illustrated by Diane de Groat, Lionel in the Fall by Stephen Krensky with pictures by Susanna Natti, The Berenstain Bears’ Nature Guide: Everything Small Bears and Kids Need to Know about the Wonderful World of Nature by Stan and Jan Berenstain, Arthur’s Thanksgiving by Marc Brown, Ten Dogs in the Window: A countdown Book by Claire Masurel with illustrations by Pamela Paparone, Six Perfectly Different Pigs by Adrienne Geoghegan with illustration by Elisabeth Moseng, Seasons from the Everyday Science Series written by Peter Riley, and Apple Cider Making Days by Ann Purmell with pictures by Joanne Friar. This is a wonderful collection of stories from which to choose.  In Apple Cider Making Days Alex and Abigail go to see how their grandfather makes apple cider and other delicious foods from apples.  The Wrong-Way Rabbit is about Tibbar Jack who is one mixed-up bunny.  This is an early reader chapter book with wonderful illustrations that show how miserable everyone can be around this little bunny.  In Six Perfectly Different Pigs one of the little piggies is sad when all of the other pigs make fun of him.  But one day someone comes along who points out all that everyone is different!  Besides learning about counting, Ten Dogs in the Window helps the reader to learn about rhyme and rhythm in words.  This predictable book is fun when read aloud.  Lionel in the Fall is an easy reading story about all of the special things that happen to Lionel in the fall of the year.  Marc Brown has written many stories about his favorite character, Arthur.  Arthur finds out that his friends really do support him at Thanksgiving after all in my pick this month.  Children will also enjoy learning all sorts of fun facts about nature from the Berenstain Bears.  Peter Riley has created a wonderful nonfiction book to help youngsters learn about the seasons.  This early science book has a table of contents and an index to help our children learn about ways to access information. Remember that you can earn points by taking Accelerated Reading tests.  Check with our librarian, Ms. Winne, about books at your level that you can read. Happy reading!
