Woodlake Elementary,a National Blue Ribbon School,
was established in 1987 and is nestled in the woods
surrounded by natural wetlands south of Highway 190
in Mandeville, Louisiana. Lake Pontchartrain is located

a library and an air-conditioned gymnasium, and outside
physical fitness course, and a well-defined nature

Woodlake's
Philosophy
The faculty and staff at Woodlake Elementary School
believe that the schools responsibility is to
help each student develop into a responsible and productive
citizen in the school, home, and community. We believe
that each student should be provided with an educational
program that fulfills his academic, social, emotional,
and physical needs. We believe that the educational
development of the individual student is the basic
responsibility of the school but must be shared with
the home and community in order to insure the childs
fullest development and the fulfillment of his needs.
We believe our program should respond to and build
upon every childs uniqueness.
The school environment and atmosphere should not
only reflect that school is a good place to be, but
also that it is a safe place for explorations, questioning
and self-expression so that learning becomes fun,
exciting, and an integral part of each childs
life. Self-discipline, self-motivation, perseverance
and inquisitiveness should be emphasized. Woodlake
is a school where it is acceptable to make mistakes
because we believe from mistakes comes learning.
Our Morning Meetings provide daily opportunities
for the school-wide application of our philosophy.
Morning Meetings are designed to include all of the
programs and people throughout our school. This is
also where our school-wide discipline plan is taught
and reinforced in a positive manner.
