What
is Multiage?
Our Multiage
program at Woodlake provides another choice for parents
and their children. Our program has combined 2 grade
levels, 1st and 2nd, into one classroom. This allows
for a two-year continuous learning program with the
same teacher. Thus creating a family-like atmosphere
where children can learn at their own rate and individual
level without fear of failure. We teach to meet the
needs of the whole child by using developmentally appropriate
activities through continuous progress with emphasis
on varied learning styles. The younger or less able
students are exposed to the higher-level material through
cooperative learning, peer tutoring, observation, and
just plain eavesdropping. The older or more able students
are role models and motivators helping each other become
more tolerant and empathetic by working with and encouraging
those of different ages and abilities. Flexible grouping
takes place in all areas of the classroom. Younger students
and older students engage in learning activities at
their own developmental level and learning style. Therefore,
children feel successful and their self-esteem continuously
increases. We feel that any child, regardless of developments
level or learning style, could benefit from this type
of school environment.
